Excellent Culinary Skills

With a play on words the sign on the door says “Ciropractor – Taste bud manipulation and stimulation”. This is precisely what Ciro Molinaro has been doing for the last 10 years with lots of passion and enthusiasm, but no fuss or pretence.

Fine Dining

Besides his excellent culinary skills, Ciro is also an engaging and charming host and the restaurant exudes an old fashion charm with its soft painted walls, assortment of wrought iron chandeliers and window seating with lots of plump cushions. The open plan kitchen with its array of gleaming saucepans, maybe compact, but it is a hive of activity with Ciro at the helm.

Mediterranean Menu

The Mediterranean menu is small, but with good reason, as each dish is a careful blend of tastes, textures and colour. Starter recommendations are the polenta, herb and parmesan torte, or the exotic quionoa salad with its blend of Middle Eastern spices. The pasta dishes offer enticing options for vegetarian like the linguini with wild mushrooms, sage and roasted pine nuts. Main course specialities are the pan-fried calves liver with lentils and port wine sauce, and the grilled fillet wrapped with Parma Ham.

  • If you haven't eaten here, you are missing one of the true gems of Johannesburg. The food is sublime, the Atmosphere is brilliant and the Chef is great.

  • We are regulars to La Cucina di Ciro and were lucky enough to get a reservation for lunch on Mother's Day. Their Atumn menu is excellent as are all the other seasonal menus, with enough choices ti spin your mind; then the waitron starts reciting the "specials" in starters, main courses and deserts, which they know off pat, even to how each item is prepared and presented. Even more choices; impossible to decide! No matter, excellent wine selection, which one can savour while making your food selection. The restaurant was extremely busy, but the attention, service, preparation and presentation if iur selected courses above reproach and definitely up to Ciro's ultra high standards. Mille grazie Ciro, molto bene.

The kitchen practises the timeless tradition of slow cooked food using only the freshest and best quality ingredients and produce. La Cunina also operates an excellent deli which offers a large selection of prepared foods such a lasagne, soups, casseroles, pasta sauces and desserts. In addition there is a full catering and function service located in separate premises, where you can order everything from a celebration cake for special occasions to snack platter for cocktail parties at home or office.
